What do we do for you?
Every year, we develop priorities based on grass-roots input and expertise from our members: the men, women, and veterans of the National Guard. We take those priorities and work with Congress to enhance National Guard capabilities, equipment parity, and benefits equity.
The State Legislative Process
- NGAKS Members experience issues during or after serving in the National Guard.
- These issues are taken to the NGAKS Legislative Committee.
- The Legislative committee works with Guard Members to develop solutions for Kansas specific problems to take to the Kansas Legislature.
- The Legislative committee organizes membership visits to their state representatives and testimony from affected Guard Members before the Kansas Legislature.
- With clear support from current and retired Guard Members and their families, the Kansas Legislature passes laws that support the capabilities and readiness of the Kansas National Guard.
The Federal Legislative Process
- NGAUS Members experience issues during or after serving in the National Guard.
- These issues are then taken to one of the National Guard associations located in the 54 states, territories, and the District of Columbia.
- These associations at the state level draft resolutions to solve the issues at hand, providing NGAUS with their recommendation.
- Draft resolutions are reviewed and voted on by members at the annual NGAUS General Conference & Exhibition.
- Resolutions that pass become the Legislative Agenda for NGAUS, starting the process of advocating for those issues.
